Frequently Asked Questions
What are hemorrhoids (piles)?
Hemorrhoids, commonly called piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in the anal and rectal region. They develop due to increased pressure in the rectal veins, commonly caused by constipation, straining during stools, prolonged sitting, pregnancy, or poor dietary habits.
What symptoms indicate piles?
Typical symptoms include bleeding during bowel movements, pain or burning sensation, itching around the anus, swelling, mucus discharge, and in some cases protrusion of piles mass outside the anus.
Are piles caused by constipation?
Yes. Chronic constipation and hard stools are the most common causes of piles. Continuous straining aggravates Vata dosha, leading to swelling and pain in the rectal veins.
Can hemorrhoids be cured without surgery?
Yes. In most early and moderate cases, piles can be treated effectively without surgery through medicines, dietary correction, proper bowel habits, and lifestyle changes. Surgery is required only in severe or complicated cases.
How long does it take to recover from piles with treatment?
Bleeding and pain usually reduce within a few days to weeks. Complete healing and prevention of recurrence depend on the severity of piles and strict adherence to treatment and dietary guidelines.
