Pain
- What is Pain?
- Pain is a distressing feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli. Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage. Pain motivates the individual to withdraw from damaging situations, to protect a damaged body part while it heals, and to avoid similar experiences in the future.
- Most pain resolves once the noxious stimulus is removed and the body has healed, but it may persist despite removal of the stimulus and apparent healing of the body. Sometimes pain arises in the absence of any detectable stimulus, damage or disease. The ability to experience pain is essential for protection from injury, and recognition of the presence of injury.
- Prostaglandins (PGs) are synthesized at the site of stimulus from arachidonic acid of membrane phospholipids. PGs work as messengers to the brain giving message in the form of pain inflammation or fever, depending upon nature of stimuli. Prostaglandins are synthesized by through COX (Cyclo oxygenase I and II) pathways. Gastric mucus (Stomach) lining is having Prostaglandin E2 as one of the major constituent which protects stomach from acids of gastric juice.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the common causes of pain in the body?
Pain can occur due to muscle strain, joint inflammation, nerve compression, injury, poor posture, overexertion, stress, aging, or imbalance of Vata dosha. Chronic pain may also be associated with arthritis, disc problems, or long-term nutritional deficiencies.
How does Ayurveda explain pain?
According to Ayurveda, pain is primarily caused by aggravation of Vata dosha, which leads to dryness, stiffness, inflammation, and obstruction in body channels. Correcting Vata imbalance and improving circulation helps in relieving pain.
Can pain be treated permanently with Ayurveda?
Ayurveda treats pain by addressing the root cause rather than suppressing symptoms. With proper herbal medicines, detoxification, diet control, and lifestyle modification, pain can be reduced significantly and, in many cases, prevented from recurring.
Is it safe to take Ayurvedic treatment for long-term pain?
Yes. Ayurvedic medicines are generally safe when taken under proper medical guidance. They help strengthen joints, muscles, and nerves without the long-term side effects commonly seen with painkillers.
How long does it take to get relief from pain with Ayurvedic treatment?
Acute pain may improve within a few days, while chronic or long-standing pain may require a few weeks to months of consistent treatment, depending on the severity and underlying cause.
